Does life feel like a blur …

Have you ever walked through a season where your life feels like a blur ~ like you have been running here and there, trying to keep up with the pace (whether real or perceived) ~ where you believe you can’t think anymore or handle one more issue of life? That series of days, weeks or months where the work schedules/demands, family commitments, church commitments, special holidays and milestone events of life feel as if they have drained you of everything?

When I get into that ‘blur’ ~ feeling like life is out-of-control and there’s nothing left within me, I inevitably realize that I have disconnected from my priority ~ God first!   Because I realize that in the craziness of life, I have left little room for quiet, refreshing time with my Father God. I may pray as I run, but I have forgotten to seek His guidance and wisdom. I am no longer in the shadow of His comfort, His peace, His love! And as things are falling apart around me, I realize how much I miss HIM!

That is when I STOP everything, and reset my priorities.

Praise God, HE loves us so much! When I stop, I can sit, breathe, share my heart and concerns with Him, for He listens and hears them all (1 John 5:14-15). And, when I take that time, I am refreshed, I find clarity and everything else in life falls into place.

Oh, I encourage you. The saying may have been ‘stop and smell the roses’ but I encourage you, stop, reset your priorities, and reclaim your peace, your clarity, and most importantly, your first love in God.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand]. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!” Psalm 91:1 Amplified

“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.  And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].” Philippians 4:6-7

Trusting Relationship

Relationships are such an integral part of our lives ~ and we long for those quality relationships ~ the ones where we can share honestly from our heart, request and listen to their wisdom, and depend on  ~ developing an unbreakable trust .  Often times though, true relationships are hard to come by; and many of us have been hurt so deeply by ‘relationships’ we mistrusted.  Yet, there is One for which we were created and can trust beyond compare!

Relationship is described in Merriam-Webster as ~ ‘The way in which two or more people … talk to, behave toward, and deal with each other; are connected

Our relationship with God can be so intimate, when we take away traditions and religion and just talk to ~ connect and commune ~ with Him, one on one.  He longs for us to be in relationship with Him.  Think of the beginning of mankind, when He formed us and ‘breathed the breath or spirit of life into us!’ (Gen 2:7).  Think about the Love He has for us ~ that truly unconditional love ~ to the point of laying down His Son’s life for us!

And, then He teaches us to seek Him, to abide in Him, to ask Him, to believe by faith.  And, in return He responds with I will … listen, answer, comfort, guide your steps, provide, I will make a way… when you seek me with ALL of your heart and mind!  Sometimes it’s hard to allow ourselves the freedom to receive God’s love because we’ve been so hurt in this world ~ but allow yourself a moment to reach out to Him.  God hears your cries!  Your part is to seek Him, and to stop long enough to fellowship with Him.

Kari Jobe’s song ~ The More I Seek You ~ in part says it this way:

 “The more I find you,
the more I love you

I wanna sit at your feet,
drink from the cup in your hand.
Lay back against you and breath,
hear your heart beat

This love is so deep,
it’s more than I can stand.
I melt in your peace, it’s overwhelming…”

Don’t you want that peace in the midst of the calamity of life?  Will you, for a moment stop and envision yourself sitting at the feet of God, drinking in His Love, His Wisdom, His peace; laying down all of your concerns at His feet, trusting Him … and just sit back and hear His heart beat.  Psalm 46:10 says: “Be still, and know that I am God!”

This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. Also, we’ve seen for ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we’ve embraced it heart and soul,
this love that comes from God.”
1 John 4:13-16 The Message

Heart Check …

Since our words and our actions all stem from our heart, let’s start the new year by checking our heart ~ our whole heart.  Let’s look inward and listen to what it is saying.  Our heart ~ our inner person, inner feelings, deepest thoughts and inner self.  “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7).heart pic

Most of us may quickly say ~ my heart is full of integrity, understanding, compassion toward others, tenderness, giving, helping and feelings of love … and you’d probably be right.  However, let’s look and listen to our whole heart, for scripture says that “our heart is deceitful above all things.”  (Jeremiah 17:9).  What else is our heart saying?

As we listen to our inner thoughts, what we speak and how we act, we may get other clues as to what else is in our heart  “… for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks.”  (Luke 6:45).

Allow yourself a moment to take honest inventory.  Don’t worry, there are no surprises to God who intricately created us and knows everything about us ~ and LOVES us unconditionally!!!  And, “there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus…”  Romans 8:1

I encourage you to spend time with God today ~ and every day ~ checking your heart.  For as you acknowledge and release the destructive pieces, there will be room in your heart for pure love, healing, peace, joy, freedom, wisdom and the ability to freely run ~ accomplishing all of the wonderful plans God has intended for you!

Begin the honest inventory, by remembering how much God loves you, and all that He has done for you through Jesus Christ.  Then ask Him to gently show you the hidden areas of your heart that may be filled with fear or hate; unforgiveness; disappointments, sorrow, cynicism, resentment, pride, anguish, hurt and the hardness of heart.  In this personal conversation ~ prayer ~ humbly come before God, listen and receive His love, His Wisdom, His healing and His grace.  Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest ( relief and ease and refreshment and  recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.”  Matthew 11:29

He never intended for us to carry a heavy, burdened heart, even if we’ve learned to mask it with humor and laughter.  Instead, if we allow it ~ He intends to carry it for us, while we walk with Him, looking to Him for all His wisdom, understanding, and the good He has planned for us!

“My child, pay attention to what I say.
Listen carefully to my words.
Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart,
for they bring life to those who find them,
and healing to their whole body.

Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life.”

Proverbs 4:20-23   (New Living Translation)

“And you shall love the Lord your God  out of
and with your whole heart…”  Mark 12:30

Where do you run?

When you were a child, did you ever hide behind a long drape at home or on the school stage? And, maybe even at times, grab the edge of the long drape and swirl around until you were completely enveloped by the drape, believing you were safely hidden? Or, did you ever run and hide around mom or dad’s legs in a shy or fearful moment?  As children we may have felt safe and protected in those hide-away places.

But now as adults, where do you run when sad, scared, angry, or inconsolable because of the challenges faced?  When you don’t understand ‘why’ something traumatic just happened to a loved one; when everything is out of your control, and you don’t know what to do or say?  Where do you run and seek safety, counsel/guidance and love?   Do you remember then, as always, that God is your true, constant and ever ready friend?

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty
[Whose power no foe can withstand].
I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress,
my God;
on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!
(Psalm 91:1-2 Amplified)

Dwelling in the ‘secret place of the Most High’, is spending time with God and sharing your heart with Him ~ talking about your dreams and visions, as well as everything that’s causing you pain or concern; and being able to ask those ‘why’ questions.  It is ongoing time with God in prayer, getting to know Him through scriptures, asking for and listening to Him speak wisdom, guidance and love into your life.

When you walk closely with Him, He securely upholds you, guides you and there is a tremendous sense of comfort/security!  Because you’re dwelling ‘under the shadow.’ If you think of a shadow, it doesn’t take many steps before you’ve stepped beyond the shadow, right? He’s asking you to stay close to Him always, and when you do, He promises safety/refuge!

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do,
everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.
Run to God!   Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health,
your very bones will vibrate with life!”
Proverbs 3:5-8 (The Message)

Staying close to God/developing a trust relationship with Him is personal, and requires time, just like developing any quality/true friendship.  It’s not a church attendance thing, it’s relationship building.  I am so grateful to God that when I look to Him, even in those doubting, questioning times, He is always faithful to show me truth, comfort me and answer those important questions, and I know He is there for you too … right now!
I encourage you to get to know your heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ!

Quality Time ~ open, honest, heartfelt

A dear friend and I get together a few times a year, meeting for breakfast and what proves to be hours of catching-up.  Oh, how I cherish these times together!  Most recently our conversation turned to love languages* and the immeasurable value of learning and honoring the love language of those closest to us.  We both agreed that my primary love language is Quality Time* ~ togetherness; quality (open, honest, heartfelt) conversation; moments of undivided attention.  And, indeed, I cherish quality time with family, friends and clients!

As I get to know the heart of God through scripture and quiet times of prayer, it becomes clear to me that He too desires quality time together with us.  Think about how He yearns for us to seek Him; come to Him; draw near, and take refuge in Him.  He says to do so diligently and early. (Proverbs 8:17; Jeremiah 29:13)  He loves us so much and desires our heartfelt, loving relationship with Him ~ with all our heart, soul and all our mind (intellect).  (Matthew 22:37).

And when we stop running away from, but instead run toward His open arms, spending quality time with our Father God, we quickly find His peace, wisdom, love, refuge, refreshing and joy.  As we draw near to God, HE draws near to us.

“Let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness)…”  Hebrews 10:22

Maybe quality time is not your primary love language.  But, I encourage you to try it ~ just you and your Father God.  Since He knows every detail of your life and loves you unconditionally, who better to talk with ~ share your most inner concerns and dreams, and there ~ ask for His wisdom and receive His loving kindness toward you.  He doesn’t require eloquence ~ He’s looking for an open, honest, heartfelt conversation ~ Quality Time ~ just you and Him.

If I can be of encouragement to you through the Word of God, please feel free to contact me at coachmichelle@charter.net

The power of relationship…

God created us for relationship with Him!  It sounds so simple.  Yet how often do you feel like, or do you hear people say, ‘where is God’ when I need him?

“God is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t worry.”  Deuteronomy 31:8 The Message

I think you’d agree that any relationship requires both parties to communicate (speaking and listening), right?  So, since God is all about relationship with you, and HE promises to stride ahead of you and be right there with you, we can be confident that if we check-in with Him, He’ll be there to guide our steps!

As believers, this relationship/interaction happens every day of the week as we study scripture and pray ~ speaking and listening.  Sometimes the experience is more pronounced, and this week we personally experienced a BIG miracle that I thought I’d share with you.

The short story is my husband had not felt well for a couple of weeks (strep, cold/flu symptoms) for which he was being medicated.  But, additionally he was experiencing chest pressure that he believed was digestive in nature.  On Thursday my husband called me from NH to say he’d been experiencing chest pressure for over two hours, that he had called his PCP and they wanted him to go to the ER.  My husband was overwhelmed with that thought ~ it didn’t fit into the schedule AND why go there for digestive problems.  So, I encouraged my husband to pray in the Spirit, and ask God for wisdom, just like we might check-in with our friends to ask for advice.  My husband prayed in the Spirit all the way to his office, and when he called back, he was at peace.  He said, I’m healed, but I need to go to the ER.  He then went willingly, and ultimately found out that the right vein to his heart was 95% blocked, requiring a stent!  Praise God, my husband is healed!!

God was with HIM all of the way, but it required my husband to believe, to ask God for wisdom/direction, and for my husband to listen and act on what God told him to do.  In doing so, we experienced a wonderful miracle!!!

God is there for you every moment of every day.  Have you checked in with Him lately?  If not, I encourage you to develop a deeper relationship with the God who created you, loves you so much HE sent Jesus to take upon Himself all of your sin, sickness and heavy burdens.  HE is there, waiting for you to trust Him, love Him back and communicate with Him!  He’s not looking for complex prayers or years of experience ~ He’s looking for a honest conversation with you!  Be blessed ~ you’re not alone ~ He is there waiting for you to receive and communicate with HIM.
