Curl up with … Get to Know …

“[For my determined purpose is]
that I may know Him
[that I may progressively become more deeply and

intimately acquainted with Him…
Philippians 3:10 (Amplified)

You know that feeling when you curl up with your favorite book, when you’re captivated by the story and the character becomes so real that you think it’s you? The story becomes so real, and that’s what God wants us to do with His Word. Allow His Word ~ His truth ~ to become real to you, as you curl up with The Bible, and recognize as you read it, that it is about you and for you!

In its entirety, The Bible is sharing who God is ~ His love, plans, cautions and His hopes for us ~ it’s personal, put your name in the scripture as you read it! God gives us personal examples through Jesus Christ on how to handle life’s struggles, because He walked this earth and understands each and every personal pain, sorrow, suffering and victory!

“For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]…”
Hebrews 4:12a (Amplified)

Allow yourself to curl up with The Word, asking God to open your eyes as you get to Know Him. “That I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him.”

Jesus said: “If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7 Amplified) His Words can’t remain in us unless we get to Know Him.

I encourage you to do so with God’s help!

God’s Love and Blessings to you and yours,

A Personal Journey …

“[For my determined purpose is]
that I may know Him …”
Philippians 3:10 (Amplified)

Personal stories often speak to me, so if I may, allow me to briefly recount my own journey to Know God.  During the first 18 years, I heard about God because my parents faithfully took me to church from week one of life.  Yet, my focus ended up being on the church/people, more than the lessons I heard about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  I thank God that those subtle messages sank in and taught me the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)!  I received Jesus as my Lord, and I was baptized … but initially for all the wrong reasons ~ it was what one was supposed to do.

Once a newly married 18-year-old, I chose to walk away from church completely!   As I look back, I am forever grateful that God never walked away from me!  I did invite Him into my life, but I spent 25 years ignoring Him ~ not consciously seeking Him, and not listening to His guidance (and oh, did He try to help me!).  But despite my head-strong independent, angry times, and many ‘free-will’ choices that caused calamity, I can see where God was always there to pick me up!!   At the core, I can also see the Godly values and His tender heart that was deep within me, and in my son.  And, even though I raised my son to only see my perceived flaws of church/religion, instead of getting to know God and His goodness, God was always present with him too because God heard the prayers of the righteous!  (Proverbs 15:29; 1 John 5:14-15)  I praise God that HE loves us all so very much!!

For my determined purpose is that I may Know God … As I look back, I learned the character of God through my years in church Bible study, service and prayer, but I lost focus of ‘who is God.’  I allowed my eyes to focus on the church, the people, my family and friends ~ and my desires ~ all of us, so human and so flawed!  One day I was so desperate, and I remembered to seek God, as I needed a God-sized intervention! I remember the day I surrendered all of my will, fear and my son to the Lord.  And, I came back to God … slowly … learning anew about Him and His love, through Jesus Christ.  I remember finally coming to the Lord because I chose to, being baptized again because by God’s grace, I wanted my past washed away and to start anew.  Oh, to know this loving God who accepts us where we’re at and who brings us into His loving care.

Now, I can’t image taking a breath without God at the center ~ probably because too often I tried and failed.  But, as my husband and I walk through our own recent challenges, it’s been critically important to have developed an intimate relationship with God whom we trust as our anchor, a very real, loving, powerful, mountain-moving God, who is able to positively impact our circumstances as we draw near to Him!

As I think about God ~ forming, and breathing the spirit of life into mankind (Genesis 2:7);

As I think about God ~ and how nothing about me is hidden from Him, … how His thoughts of me outnumber the grains of sand (Psalm 139) ;

As I think about God ~ and how His plans for me are good, to give me a future and
a hope (Jeremiah 29:11)

As I think about God ~ and how much He loves us, giving His only Son, Jesus, to give us life abundantly … and  to save us for eternity! (John 10:10 and John 3:16)

As I think about God ~ I want nothing more than to draw near to Him and to Know Him.

I pray that your determined purpose is to Know HimGod ~ Creator of Heaven and Earth, Sovereign, Almighty, Savior, Merciful, Redeemer, our Strength, our Deliverer, our Shelter, our Strong Tower, our Present Help in time of need, our Shield, our Provider, our Peace … our Righteous God who never fails or walks away.  To know God is to know true Love, for God is Love. “We love Him because He first loved us.”  (1 John 4:7-19)

The Wonders of His Person …

From The Heart_4C

Over the last few weeks I’ve been reflecting on a deeper level of love toward God with a ‘determined purpose,’ the way the apostle Paul described:

“[For my determined purpose is]
that I may know Him
[that I may progressively become more deeply and
intimately acquainted with Him,
perceiving and recognizing and understanding

the wonders  of His Person
more strongly and more clearly],
and that I may in that same way come to know the power
outflowing from His resurrection..”
Philippians 3:10 (Amplified)

This scripture really touched me when I read it, and I kept coming back to it because it is profound.  Becoming ‘more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him …’  I’d like to spend some time with you, as we capture a deeper understanding of the ‘wonders of His Person.’  Not a religion; not just a historical character in the Book.  The Wonders of His Person ~ God who lavished all His love on you and me, through Jesus Christ.

Let our ‘determined purpose’ be to Know all of Him ~  for who He is ~ to you and me, personally!

God’s Love and Blessings to you and yours,
Michelle

Let your heart take courage …

“Be strong and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!
Psalm 31:24 (Amplified)

Psalm 31 starts out “In You, O Lord, I put my trust…”  To anyone walking through the storms of life, I encourage you to put your trust in God, and allow Him to help you!

Be strong and let your heart take courage ~
Let your heart … just like put (your trust) and allow  … all require action on your part.  It entails being dependent, trusting, and leaning on God, instead of pulling yourself up by your own boot straps, stubbornly trying to make things happen on your own ~ your way or the highway.  Instead …  let your heart take courage for God will strengthen your heart!

Courage ~ the ability and willingness to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation,*” guided, enabled, and strengthened by the all loving and all-knowing God.

All you who Wait for ~ Wait, is to “hope, trust, expect, be patient, remain in anticipation**.”  Waiting in faith on the Lord, and trusting God always, for He heard your prayers, as you drew near to Him!

All you who Hope for ~ Hope is “confident expectation based on solid certainty… an extension of faith***”  “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”  Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)

All you who Expect the Lord ~ look forward to, anticipate, await, hope and watch for the promises of God to manifest in and through your life!

Do you see how Wait, Hope and Expect all interweave?  “… let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!”

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you.
He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)

As the storms of life come and go, you may have moments when you take your eyes off of Christ, but take courage in and through the strength and love of God through Jesus Christ ~ refocus, grab hold of Him and stand up again victoriously!

“I [Jesus} have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence.
In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration;
but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident,
certain, undaunted]!
For I have overcome the world.
[I have deprived it of power to harm you and
have conquered it for you.”
John 16:33 (Amplified)

Action Required …

From The Heart_4C

We had a great conversation with dear friends this weekend about being ‘doers of the Word.’  In reality, whenever we hear or read the Word of God, we have choices to make.  Of course, one choice is to actually read the Word, getting to know God (His character and personality) throughout the Bible ~ not just a random verse here and there.  Then there are many other choices, but two important ones are to 1) believe the Word in our heart; and 2) to decide ‘to do’ what God instructs us through His Word.

“… humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts,
for it has the power to save your souls.
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”
James 1:21-22

Scripture has been so powerful to my husband and I as we both walk through either health and/or work challenges. This particular scripture causes us to take inventory! It says when we: humbly accept (receive, take, believe) … the WORD (God’s promises, life, wisdom, freedom, etc.) that God has planted in our heart, it has the power to save our soulsHIS Word has power!

But, it further says we can’t just listen (or read about it), we must actually DO what it says!

The Message version says:  “Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear!”

As we encourage ourselves in God’s Word, or quote scripture to someone else ~ it’s important for us to take a personal inventory.  Are we actually doing what it says in the midst of our own circumstances, or are we deceiving ourselves?  For example as the Word says, Are we being anxious for nothing; casting our cares to the Lord; trusting Him, and leaning on Him, or are we carrying the burdens on our own?  Doing what we know from the Word is not always easy!  But, the benefits are eternal and are powerful to help us!

The benefits follow as you continue reading the scripture:

“… IF you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free,
and IF you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard,
then God will bless you for doing it.”
James 1:23-25

Action Required:  Did you notice the word “IF” … there is an action to be taken on our part (because we have free will, the choice is ours)!  IF we read/listen and absorb the Word into our hearts … doing what it says, God will bless us!!  God blesses us with salvation and freedom from all that holds us down!  Please note, He’s not saying “IF so He can condemn us, for He loves us too much.  He’s saying IF to help us understand the benefits of His guidance and what is required of us.

As we believe God’s Word, by faith, hear what He says and take action:

“… be strong and courageous! … Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you.  He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6, 8 NLT

As we read/listen and act on God’s Word, may you always know it’s power and truth to set you free and guide you.

God’s Love and Blessings to all!!!

Broken Heart …

“The righteous cry out,
and the Lord hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and
saves those
who are crushed in spirit.

The righteous person may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all;”
Psalm 34:17-19 (NIV)

broken heart

Meditate on what this scripture is saying … when a believer cries out to God, especially while walking through the challenging, broken heart times … God hears you ~ even when you don’t ‘feel’ as if He hears, He does!   In fact, 1 John 5:14-15 says “.. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

And then it continues to say:  “And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.”

Think about it, God not only hears you, but He deliversDelivers us out of distress and troubles.  And, He comforts with His tender love and mercy!

Recently, during my second hospitalization in one week, frustrated and in quite some pain, I cried out to God.  I knew in my heart that He heard me ~ but I didn’t know in advance how He would manifest His deliverance and comfort.  That day, I was blessed in so many ways, but especially by an unexpected visitor, who along with a second shift, PCA spontaneously surrounded me, praying in the Spirit!  It was beautiful, powerful and amazing.  It strengthened my heart, and that night as I believed in my heart for healing, I was able to lift my leg, which for three days could not rise enough to slide a piece of paper under my foot! To God be the glory!!  He heard my cry and He delivered me ~ so many times in so many ways!

And He hears your cry!  So, no matter what you are facing or how broken your heart is, know that as you cry out to God, He cares, He loves you, He hears you and He comforts you in so many waysAs you allow Him into your heart, look with expectation for His wondrous comfort, wisdom and healing, so that you can in turn, share your testimony, His love and His comfort with others.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles,
so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)

In your heart believe …

From The Heart_4C

Do you remember when you humbly came to God, crying out for Him?  Your heart may have been broken, empty, lost, lonely, scared … all you knew, is that you were yearning to fill that hole deep within you, you wanted something more ~ peace, wholeness, healing.  Do you remember that humble moment when you surrendered your heart to God …  no matter how ugly your past, you asked Jesus to be your Lord ~ forgiving you and beginning life anew.  Oh, what a glorious day!

That moment required childlike faith, and came with absolute belief from your heart!!

“… if you acknowledge and confess with your lips
that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe
(adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth)
that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For with the heart a person believes
(adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ)
and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God),
and with the mouth he confesses
(declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and
confirms [his] salvation.” Romans 10:9-10 Amplified

Think of it ~ you are declared righteous [in right standing] and acceptable to God ~ no matter what your past!  All because you came with an open and humble heart ~ believing ~ adhering to, trusting in, and relying on the truth!  I pray you have that peaceful assurance that starts with the basic … in your heart believe!

And, whatever you may face today, remember to go back to basics ~ to that childlike faith in God, in His goodness, in His unconditional love ~ and in your heart believe!

God’s Love and Blessings,
