“Be thankful in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
I remember back 30 years when I couldn’t think of a single thing for which to be grateful. Don’t get me wrong, I had much for which to be grateful, but my heart and mind only focused on the negative. Praise God, over the years, I’ve allowed HIM to soften my heart and open my eyes to little details and now gratefulness abounds.
We have so many examples of answered prayers and God’s guidance, but the most recent is our trip to Belgium, June 2013. Prior to the trip there was much turmoil and frustration distracting us. But, as we refocused our attention toward God, believing and trusting Him for every detail, we now look back in awe (again) at His faithfulness!
My mom who lives in Belgium, moved last year and this was our first trip over, no longer able to stay with her. As we planned our trip, I remember looking for a hotel in Waterloo via the internet for over a week, each time expecting something new and more appropriate to show up! Sure enough though searching with the same criteria, a bed & breakfast, (Le Vert Bocage) ‘suddenly’ appeared! My mom checked it out and it was perfect. And, indeed the owners were the most kind and helpful, actually catering to our every need as if we were royalty! A blessing from God!!
And in the end, over our entire trip, we recognize with very thankful hearts that God attended to every detail. We give God the glory for all HIS goodness, and in part we are thankful for:
~ safe flights (being able to envision God upholding the plane as it took off and landed brought such peace; connections made even when flights were running late);
~ the ability to celebrate my mom’s 92nd birthday;
~ time with mom, accomplishing much reorganizing in a short period of time;
~ the comfort of seeing mom’s new apartment, caring elder housing staff, and her friends, new and old;
~ safe and sunny travel days even when rain was forecasted;
~ an awesome rental car, and Jim’s happiness in discovering new parts of Belgium and a piece of Germany;
~ finding parking spaces in the midst of congested cities;
~ safety and good health; and
~ the ability to pay for this trip!
I encourage you to ask God to come into every detail of your life ~ whether you are walking through troubled times or pleasant times ~ believing in His faithfulness, trusting Him in all ways to guide you ~ and watch with awe at how much God loves you and perfects that which concerns you!
“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, endure forever…”
Psalm 138:8a (Amplified)
God’s Love and Blessings to you,
