When we receive God’s forgiveness and unconditional love for the first time … and that love continues to grow in us, we can’t help but want to pour it out to others, right? I find that today, having received God’s forgiveness for my own sins/mistakes, and allowing Him to heal my heart, I have more love to give than ever before in my life ~ this love just wants to bubble out of me; even though I fully understand I have a lot more to learn about love! 🙂
But, just because God’s love is bubbling out of me, doesn’t always mean it is received by others. Have you ever experienced that? Acting and speaking in love, but having that love pushed away, mocked or sadly, not received? It’s heart breaking because we understand that the inability to receive loves comes from past hurt, disappointment or brokenness in their lives! This understanding gives us reason to keep praying and believing for healing in their lives ~ for softening of their hearts to receive God’s amazing, pure love and forgiveness! Oh, the freedom that comes with that love!
But it also gives reason why we need to be very careful that our talk matches our walk.
Important that we continue checking our heart to make sure we are loving with a pure heart ~ only possible because of God’s love in us.
Think about what 1 Corinthians 13:1-7 (The Message) says:
If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy …. but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere.
So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up;
Love cares more for others than for self;
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have;
Love doesn’t strut;
Doesn’t have a swelled head;
Love doesn’t force itself on others;
Love isn’t always “me first”;
Love doesn’t fly off the handle;
Love doesn’t keep score of the sins of others;
Love doesn’t revel when others grovel;
Love doesn’t take pleasure in the flowering of truth;
Love puts up with anything.
Love trusts God always;
Love always looks for the best;
Love never looks back;
Love keeps going to the end.
I encourage you to keep checking your heart ~ asking the Lord to reveal the areas that still need healing in your own heart. And, as you grow in love, keep loving in action and in word.
“Let everything you do be done in love (true love to God and man as inspired by God’s love for us).” 1 Corinthians 16:14
